Vacation @ Philippines, Cebu?
April 9, 2009 - Posted in cebu vacation
Hi,
I'm planning for a 5 days vacation to Cebu this coming March. Is there any recommendations what i can do over there?
If you want to know about adult night life, send me a PM
For non adult night life in Cebu City, my suggestions are
DISCOS
- Sunflower disco on Salinas Drive in Cebu City
- NASA disco on A.S. Fortuna St in Mandaue City
- PUMP disco in Mango Square on Mango Avenue, also known as General Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City
DANCING and DINING
- Cafe Havana, beside the lagoon, next to Ayala Mall. It has a live latino band most nights and is where the well to do Filipinos hang out.
CASINO
- in Waterfront Hotel on Salinas drive in Cebu City
EXPAT HANGOUTS

Corner of Sanciangko and Pelaez Streets in down town Cebu City
Best to go there early evening and get the lowdown on what is happening. You may also find yourself an expat who is happy to show you the sights for free. Patrons sit on both sides of the bar at Our Place. This has caused confusion sometimes with new people. I have been sitting on the "staff" side of the bar and people have come in and ordered drinks from me.

Styled on an English pub. Again it is best to go there early evening to get the lowdown on what is happening and again, you may find an expat willing to act as a guide.

Expats hang out here but are not as approachable as the other two places. This is the sort of place to bring your own friends with you. It has a swimming pool, club house with pool table and dart board, 3 tennis courts, an out door but under cover restaurant. It is a very pleasant place to dine by the pool at night.
There are many other places I have not mentioned, you can discover them for yourself!
DAYTIME
I used to be a partner in a tourism business in Cebu City. This is the itinery of a tour I used to run

Sandtrap is an excellent place to hang out in the day time too!

Spend some time in Ayala Mall and/or SM Mall. They are amongst the biggest malls in the world. At the moment, SM Mall is the 12th biggest mall in the world. They are entertainment hubs with cinemas, dining, night clubs, fitness centres, children's entertainment and usual mall shopping.

Every Wednesday from 1pm. go ten pin bowling with expats at the Gaisano Country Mall bowling centre
Every Saturday from 3pm, go for a run/walk with the Cebu Hash House Harriers. They usually start from the Sandtrap. So if you want to run, make sure you have visited the Sandtrap before Saturday and check the itinery on the club house wall.
There are a group of dive shops near Maribago Blue Water on Mactan island that can take care of all your diving needs, cheap.
Take a day trip to Kawasan Falls
http://www.bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=106
It is about 2 hours in a private car from the centre of Cebu City to the Kawasan Falls car park. From there, you have about 20 minutes walk to the lower falls then about another 15 minutes walk to the upper falls, depending on your fitness.
Take a day tour or take a few days side trip to Bohol. It is less than 2 hours in a fast ferry from Cebu City to Tagbilaran Bohol. Read more here:

If you have kids with you, take them to the fun centre in the basement of SM Mall or to the Go Karts at Kartzone situated on F. Cabahug Road in Mabolo, Cebu City. You could also take them to one of the swimming pool complexes such as Aqua Cainta or Villa Terisita in Talisay City or Tubod Flowing Waters in Minglanilla. Villa Terisita has about six swimming pools one of which has a water slide. Aqua Cainta has two swimming pools, one with a water slide. Tubod flowing waters is more of a water wonderland with lots of connecting waterways between pools. They also have a waterslide.
If you want to combine some relaxation time with a bit of sight seeing, my suggestion is you travel to Malapascua Island, Cebu and experience the sights along the way, plus a bangka boat ride to the island then lay on some white sandy beach for a day or two. As a bonus, you can discover Filipinos living the same lifestyle as their ancestors lived, without electricity, indoor plumbing and telephones. Plus see some traditional boats being made.
I hope this helps!

It all depends what you want to do. Sightseeing, sports, island hopping etc.
There are plenty of Philippines websites/ yahoo groups out there with founding members living in Cebu City.
If you are not from the Philippines or another tropical country you will need time to adapt to the heat and humidity. 5 days to me seem fairly short for really "doing something" in a country like the Philippines.
Check the vaccination websites for Dengue/Malaria areas to avoid and for medication to take with you. Use common sense and a money belt inside the trouser. Don't flash your wealth and you should be safe like in any other country. Most of all, enjoy the friendly, laid back atmosphere…you'll be back for more.

You should have someone to show you around instead of trying to go it alone.

As a travel planner, I recommend Cebu visit for 3 days and 2 nights. the first day, you can do a City tour to attractions in Cebu. The second day, hop in to a fast ferry for a day tour in the Chocolate hills of Bohol, just over an hour trip by fastcraft. You can save a lot in this combination than seeing the place separately.Would probably cost you no more than $560.00 if alone or $300.00 per pax if with company, excluding airfare of course.
