Which would be the better 7-day vacation and why? Brisbane, Australia; Cebu, Philippines; or Singapore?
April 3, 2009 - Posted in cebu vacation
If I'm working in South Korea, and I have 9 days off from work, assuming my first and last days of the vacation I am in transit, I have seven days that I can devote to leisure. I decide that I want to spend those seven days elsewhere, and I've narrowed the choices down to Brisbane, Australia; Cebu, Philippines; and Singapore. I'm OK with the round-trip fares to any of these three cities. I've already determined that I can get a room reserved for my stay in any of the three cities for a price I consider reasonable. I have never been to any of these three cities ever before in my life, in fact, I've never been to any of those 3 countries ever before in my life. The only countries I've ever been in before are the USA, Canada, South Korea, and Japan. Other than the transportation and the lodging, I have yet to plan my activities. You can plan for me. Based on everything I've told you, please persuade me why I should choose the destination that you propose out of the 3 listed.
I've never been to Australia or Singapore……but have been to Cebu. Anyway, Cebu is a good starting place to visit other parts of the Philippines. While there, take a boat ride (see Ocean Jet info below) to Bohol. While there you can tour the island, see the Chocolate hills, the worlds smallest monkey (see link below). Take a river tour with lunch. All of that should only take one, maybe two days out of your schedule. Panglao Island, just south of Bohol, has some pretty resorts. Leyte has the General Douglas Macarthur Leyte landing memorial near Tacloban (again you can take the Jet Boat I believe), though not much to do there. Boracay (Philippines) is full of resorts and a great place for night life and beach life. Most Filipinos speak English along with there respective Filipino dialect. If you are traveling alone, I would recommend staying in the tourist ares or in the city (daytime only in the city). I would recommend not going to Mindanao. The Abu Sief (rebel Muslim group) are active in the part of the Phils and it may not be the safest place. Otherwise, Filipino people are very friendly and hospitable. I'm sure someone else can provide more info on the Phils than I can, but I've had a great time there and am going back again this Dec/Jan.

I look forward reading some other suggestions for any of the places you would like to visit.

Cebu is nice, but Bagio City is nicer.
I have been several places in the Philippines, and liked them all. Do a web search on Cebu and you will find lots of things to do there

hey good to hear from you. i've seen your 360°, and it was great, never tried that, and because of that, i;m doing my 360° right now (LOL) hehehe.
anyways, regarding your planning vacation, of course i would suggest for you to go to my country.
i'm a Filipino & i would recommend for you to go to the Philippines.
they're right, Cebu is really a great start. there's really a lot of place to see in the philippines.
And one big benefit of going here is your $500 is more than enough for 7 days. So if your budget is more than that, WOW, maybe I could go with you but I can't.
try also visiting http://www.wowphilippines.com.ph/ for other exciting tourist spot in the philippines.
And can't go into more details the page would be filled with just my answer & its boring reading without photos & visuals of the places I will describe.

I'd been in Australia, Singapore and the Philippines. If you should ask me which among these 3 will I spend my entire vacation, I'll say the Philippines. As a matter of fact, I will be going again to the Philippines this winter for 2 weeks. I am considering to swing by Singapore and Indonesia for 3 days, but majority of my holidays will be in the Philippines.
I haven't been to Cebu myself but the Filipino people in its entirety are friendly and hospitable. My experience interacting with the locals is indeed a good retreat in my busy life.
Visit http://www.wowphilippines.com.ph. Philippines, without a doubt.

i moved to australia from asia and have visited brisbane a couple of times, for a day each. it's a very beautiful city, probably not so much to do/play in the city (maybe because gold coast has taken over the priority in tourism and i didnt pay so much attention to the city itself), but it has quite a bit to see, which if you are planning for a really relaxing holiday, brisbane is just right. but since you havent been to australia before (and it is a place so far away from the rest of the world) its probably better if you could spend a longer holiday here (at least a month??) to see more of the country. not to mention it would take at least 12 hours or more to fly here.
i have never been to singapore although geographically, its my neighbour, but it would take you THE MOST two days to explore the whole country. you will have nothing to do for the remaining five days of your holidays. it is pretty much a modern city with-out (i am trying to sound not so strong with word) a unique culture.
as for cebu – well you have all the supporters here trying to persuade you
i have never been there but it does sound like a nice place!
happy holidaying anyway!

Actually, it depends on what you want out of your vacation. Of course everyone from AUS would like you to come over there and everyone from the Philippines would do that as well. etc. Do you like white sandy beaches and pampering spas? Or do you like adventure? Among the three choices Cebu is the least expensive BUT very attractive too. You can have one of the best in Asia with the fraction of a cost as compared to the other two. If I were you, I would try the PH first then Singapore then Aus.
