thinking to visit manila for a month as vacation (i’m a female)?

May 24, 2010 - Posted in manila vacation

my friend is going there for work, and i want to join him to enjoy a long deserved vacation. airfare may cost around 1500 for me. we will be at a 4 star hotel in alabang town ctr… use shuttle, have tour guide, and try mall of asia. for some reason, some ppl tell me it’s dangerous and poor… and not to speak to strangers, and so hot over there. is it true?
im starting to worry a little. there are 3 shots to get from a clinic. should i try visiting? are things cheaper? i went online store to see how cheap they are but when i converted curency, it wasn’t that cheap at all.

any suggestions…. input, please~

The place is deffinitely worth visiting. Such a unique place I’m sure after your month there you will be saying to your friends how great of a time you had. I will do my best to give it to you straight. Manila as a whole is hectic and really busy so be prepared for its famous traffic. Saying there is alot to do is an understatement, too much to do and not enough time which I’m sure you’ll find out.

There are plenty of things to do like the malls, great night life hangouts and all the other tourist crap too. Refering to the dangerous and poor segment of your question, its not as bad as you imagine. True there is merit to both as Manila is just that kind of place but on the level you will be fine. Very few incidents that are really bad happen to foreigners and the worst that you will probably encounter is either accidental food poisoning and being overcharged.

But that being said you must know that there are quiet alot of poor areas in Manila and also rich areas too. I’m sure you’ll be staying in the built up parts and in that case you will be fine. However you must in like all places practice common sense. My advice is to not dress up to rich, carry modest amounts of cash on you at anyone time and to try and have someone with you at night time. I’ve been there heaps of times and nothing to bad has happened to me and I’ve been in some interesting places there and walked out fine.

If you are to get any shots I would highly advice to get a Tetanus shot as manila being manila you have a slight chance of accidently stepping on a rusty nail or something like that. In regards to how cheap it is there believe me when I say its cheaper than you think. Food costs nothing just about but if you do go to the malls I would honestly say that everything is aprox 30 percent if not more cheaper. If you buy at the high end stores the prices will be the same compared to Western stores. But on the level everything is cheaper.

Other than that you will figure the place out fairly quickly and I’m sure you will come back having had a good time. Just go there with an open mind and you will be pleasantly surprised!HCpackedHotelDealsBanner468x60 thinking to visit manila for a month as vacation (im a female)?

  2. philippines is good, there are a lot of beautiful sceneries.Yeah it would be easy for some to say that philippines is poor but hell no philippines is not that cheap.Well,it’s not that dangerous to go in there.filipinos are known for there hospitality,so sure would be great.Of course talking to strangers is dangerous, even if you are going to states, you wouldn’t even mind to talk to strangers.same goes to the philippines.it’s great in there and enjoy.(try to visit some provinces in there it would be great.

  3. Those "some people" are losers. The weather is fine, and you can speak to anyone only if you need help. Its not dangerous. Just always be awake and alert!

  4. Haha, not so sure why your hotel’s in Alabang, but alright. =P. The Philippines can be REALLY cheap if you know where to go. I recommend Greenhills for bargain shopping, it’s really great and you can also find some Filipino traditional stuff if you’re looking for that. And the heat is definitely bearable, nothing to worry about. At the moment it’s actually nice and breezy.

As for ‘dangerous and poor’…? Um, only if you’re going to really sketchy areas. People over here are way friendly and speak decent English. So, I wouldn’t be worrying if I were you. =P.

Hope you have a good time!

  8. Why dont you see for yourself? If you want expensive things like gucci, louis vuitton etc go to greenbelt. If you want cheap but awsome goodies, go to greenhills. Nightlife? go to Embassy (super club).

Tropical climate has the best pH level for the skin so we look young, tanned, and hydrated.

Plus Boracay and Amanpulo are here.

Maybe we’re poor in terms of GDP and GNP. But we’re very luxurious in the way we live our lives. Others have to work 2 jobs just to be able to pay rent. Here, even beggars have cellular phones and mp3 players.

  9. Its a wonderful country.

Its poor, so there are more people driven to try to get money for the absolute basics in life, rather than for drugs as in the ‘West’.
If you make sure you apply the same common sense regarding safety that you do in cities in your own country, then you will be fine.

And the poeple are generally the nicest, most friendly in the entire Asia/Pacific region, possibly in the world.
