Which area to stay in Manila if Im going for shopping vacation?
April 21, 2009 - Posted in manila vacation
You can try the ortigas area. Its near greenhills, megamall, and the MRT/LRT. There are also a lot of nice affordable condotels there. It is also very safe to walk around at night and after a full day shopping, there are lots of places to hang out in to have coffee or drinks, or better yet, have a massage. Since its very busy there are also 24 hour fast food places and convenience stores within easy walking distance. since there is an MRT station nearby, you can go to other malls (gateway, ayala or SM makati, robinsons manila, SM North, etc…). From greenhills shopping center, they also have a free shuttle which leaves hourly for tiendesitas (for local crafts). All the MRT/LRT lines are interconnected anyway so wherever you stay should be ok as long as its near any of the stations

where u have to stay is not an issue because u can always hire a cab to take u to shopping centers/malls.
Places u must go for shopping are, greenhills shopping center, its part of san juan, glorietta center in makati, megamall, robinson's, divisoria, mall of asia….and many many more….maybe u should stay near ortigas, makati, malate…

The Malate area would be great as several shopping centers are a stones throw away. There's SM Manila and Robinson's Place Manila to name a few, both are accessible through jeepney, taxi, and the Light Rail Transit-1 which runs through Taft Avenue. SM Mall of Asia, one of the world's largest, is about 15 minutes away. The Malate district offers a wide range of hotels from cheap ones to expensive ones such as the Pan Pacific Hotel, Manila Diamond Hotel and the Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila. Another shopping destination in Manila, The Divisoria, which is known for great bargain, is accessible through the LRT-1 by riding to Doroteo Jose station and transferring to the adjacent LRT-2 Recto Station then riding a jeepney which will bring you directly to Divisoria.

divisoria is the best place for bargain in manila although you have to be real smart with huggling for prices and be wary of pickpockets and other not-so-good elements around the area. you can try baclaran specially during wednesdays but it could get too crowded. if you want, you can also go to greenhills in san juan where upper class do their inexpensive shopping.

I second the motion CONFUSED answer. or you might opt to stay in Ayala Alabang area also. Lots of malls around plus the place is not as congested as Manila. Have fun shopping.

I would stay somewhere near any SM (Manila, etc) or the Mall of Asia. Maybe Makati, or any of the suggestions other people have given you. But if I were you I would stay pretty distant considering that Manila is VERY congested and traffic jammed.
